California Proposition 65 Information

The short version: California law requires businesses to warn Californians about significant exposures to certain chemicals. When a product we sell requires a Proposition 65 warning, the warning appears on the product label or packaging and, for online orders, on the product page or before checkout. What is Proposition 65?

The Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act of 1986, known as Proposition 65, requires the State of California to publish a list of chemicals known to the state to cause cancer, birth defects, or other reproductive harm. The list is maintained by California's Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment (OEHHA) and includes more than 900 chemicals. Some are found in a wide range of everyday consumer products, and some occur naturally.

Businesses must give a "clear and reasonable" warning before knowingly and intentionally exposing someone in California to a listed chemical, unless the exposure is low enough to pose no significant risk. A warning does not mean a product violates any product safety standard or law.

How MIJU Beauty provides warnings

  • On the product. Where a warning is required, it is provided on the product label or packaging, or on materials supplied with the product.
  • Online. For products bought through our website, any required warning is also shown on the product page, through a clearly labeled "WARNING" link on the product page, or before you complete your purchase.
  • Retail partners. We provide required warning materials and notices to our wholesale customers that sell to consumers in California, as the law requires.
