Product Safety and Reporting a Reaction

Last updated: October 5, 2026

The short version: If you have a serious reaction, stop using the product and get medical help right away (call 911 in an emergency). Then tell us what happened. We pass reports to the brand responsible for the product so it can investigate and meet its legal reporting duties. You can also report directly to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

If you have a reaction

  • Stop using the product. Rinse the area gently with water if appropriate.
  • Get medical care if the reaction is severe or does not go away, especially for eye injuries, burns, swelling, trouble breathing, or significant hair loss. Call 911 or go to an emergency room in an emergency. For possible poisoning or accidental swallowing, call Poison Control at 1-800-222-1222.
  • Keep the product and packaging, including the label and batch or lot code, in case the brand or a health care provider needs it.

How to report a reaction or product concern to us

Consumers, retailers, salons, and spas can contact us through our contact form (subject: "Product Safety") or call +1 657-790-0000. Please include, if you can:

  • your name and how to reach you;
  • the product name, brand, size, and batch or lot code;
  • where and when you bought it;
  • what happened, when it started, and whether you saw a health care provider; and
  • photos of the product, label, and packaging.

Retailers and salons: if a customer reports a reaction to you, please forward it to us promptly, ideally within one business day, with the details above.

What we do with your report

Under the federal Modernization of Cosmetics Regulation Act of 2022 (MoCRA), the "responsible person" for a cosmetic product (the manufacturer, packer, or distributor whose name appears on the label) must report serious adverse events to FDA, generally within 15 business days of receiving the report. When we receive a report, we record it and forward it promptly to the brand or responsible person named on the product label, and we cooperate with any follow-up. We share only the information needed to investigate the report, as described in our Privacy Policy. We may contact you for more details.

Product concerns that are not reactions, such as packaging defects, unusual smell, color, or texture, or suspected counterfeit products, are also welcome and are handled the same way. For damaged or incorrect deliveries, see our Returns Policy.

Report directly to FDA

You can also report a problem with a cosmetic product directly to FDA:
